We run a small-scale centre where a child’s confidence can excel, and where we can provide personalised care and attention to each little individual.
Small Size – the centre is licensed for 25 children, including up to 8 aged under 2. We accommodate ages from 6 months to 5 years.
Friendly staff – we are dedicated, caring, experienced, and highly committed.
Child:staff ratio – better than 1:4, with 4 qualified teachers, 1 teacher in training and 1 teacher aide.
Non-profit, any surplus finances are reinvested in the centre.
Sense of community – the centre is governed by a parent committee. Committee members are actively involved in supporting the centre and its educational programme.
Culturally inclusive – we use Te Reo Māori naturally in conversations with children and we celebrate the nationalities and backgrounds of everyone at the centre.
Integrated environment – age groups are mixed for a nurturing family atmosphere. Younger children learn from older ones, who are able to practice being gentle and caring.
Varied activities – themed days, scheduled excursions and projects are interwoven with the Te Whariki programme (National Early Curriculum Guidelines).
Prime location – we’re right on Evans Bay, which allows for frequent trips to the local beach. GPCC is situated at the National Institute of Weather and Atmosphere (NIWA) site on the Wellington waterfront.
Budding scientists – many children are from families who work at NIWA and the curriculum takes advantage of the science stories and the facilities next door with field trips to NIWA labs and presentations and displays by science staff.
