Our Programme
We follow Te Whariki, the National Early Childhood Curriculum Guidelines, provided by the Ministry of Education. Te Reo Maori is included in Our Programme, while also recognising other cultural backgrounds of the children and staff.
Staff Tailor The Programme to the individual needs of the children through observations, identifying children's strengths and needs, following their interests, and using this information to set objectives and learning outcomes.
Children are Given a varied and stimulating range of experiences, including - painting, crayons, collage, construction, play dough, finger paint, gloop, sand, water, carpentry, cooking, blocks, duplo, puzzles, games, family and dramatic play, books, story telling, children's garden, climbing equipment, bikes and ride-ons, sports equipment etc.
Regular Outings, including trips to Te Papa museum, Lollipops, Tiny Town, libraries, playgrounds, fire stations, etc., are taken, along with walks to the local beach. We invite and encourage parent participation in these trips and children are free to participate even if the trips are on days that they would not usually attend.
The Centre Operates With a Minimum of Rules and an emphasis on ensuring the safety and well being of the children. Children are taught to respect other people and property, learning by example from positive, encouraging adults acting as role models. We use praise and encouragement to reinforce positive behaviour and surprise or disappointment to highlight unacceptable behaviour.
Parents Are Welcomed and encouraged to participate in Centre activities. They play an active role in both the management of the Centre and day-to-day activities. We have a regular newsletter communicating important events, news, current themes and projects, staff course/training information and ideas. Frequent working bees and social events are organised. In addition, there's a strong emphasis on interchange of ideas between parents, children and staff. Child, parent, or staff initiated ideas often lead to the development of projects, themes, games and programmes that are built upon following a natural progression of children's interests.
